MOVIE REVIEW: Molly’s Game

This is a dialogue-heavy movie that will enthral you from the very first frame but you need to pay attention as it moves along at breakneck speed. Chastain is perfect as the ice queen Bloom, giving just enough to keep it all interesting yet always remaining one step ahead of the pack.

That is, until a decade after she is finished with that chapter of her life and the FBI raid her apartment in the dead of night.

Who is in it: Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, Michael Cera, Natalie Krill, Stephanie Herfield, Madison McKinley, Jeremy Strong, Chris O’Dowd, J.C. MacKenzie, Brian d’Arcy James, Bill Camp, Graham Greene, Angela Gots

What is it: the true story of an injured Olympic skier who decides to take a year out after college and ends up running a high stakes poker game for the Hollywood elite. As a child, Molly’s father would push her almost past the point of physical endurance. Naturally, she becomes an over-achiever but it is this drive and determination that sees her taking advantage of opportunities others would miss to eventually run a world class poker game with a world class reputation to match. That is, until the FBI raided her home.

Why should I watch it: Jessica Chastain. Idris Elba. Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin. Need I continue?
