Newcastle’s comedy scene is making room for a midweek laugh, with five local comedians set to deliver extended sets at a one-off Wednesday Comedy Lineup at Newcastle Comedy Club in Islington this October.

The special event will give audiences a chance to see some of the region’s stand-up talent stretch their material beyond the shorter sets usually featured on a typical comedy bill.

Taking place on a Wednesday rather than the scene’s usual busy weekend schedule, the show offers a relaxed midweek outing for comedy fans.

The lineup features seasoned comedian Fiona Cox, 2026 Raw Comedy state finalist Steve Dowse and Huw Rogers, a 2025 Comedy Writers Group Comedian of the Year nominee.

Emerging comedians Michael O’Connor and Elih Jackson round out the bill, with each performer bringing a distinct perspective and comedic style to the stage.

Cox mines the mundanity of everyday life for deadpan humour and cheeky observations, while Dowse delivers punchy stories about dating at the bottom of the barrel.

Rogers finds playful comedy in the absurdities of living with blindness, O’Connor explores parental despair and household chaos, and wildlife researcher Jackson brings working-class perspectives to his material.

The extended format gives the five comedians more time to explore their favourite material and experiment with what they can do with a longer set.

With Newcastle’s growing stand-up scene attracting comedians from across Australia, opportunities to perform on quality local bills are increasingly competitive, making the one-off show a chance to see local talent bring their best to the stage.

The Wednesday Comedy Lineup will run from 8pm to 9pm on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, at Newcastle Comedy Club, 139 Maitland Road, Islington. Tickets cost $30 and are available through Humanitix.
