Hunter street eatery, menya Makoto will be serving up dishes inspired by anime classics throughout the month of October.
The underrated stars of the Japanese food scene in Newcastle will also be cooking up Japanese cultural favourites in the lead-up to Halloween.
Last week saw the menya Makoto crew pay homage to the manga and anime classic Naruto with delicious bowls of Ichiraku Ramen flying out of the kitchen much to the delight of local otaku.
This week the team will celebrate Hayao Miyazaki’s cinema masterpiece, Spirited Away. They’ll be slinging some tasty onigiri inspired by the film complete with decorations around the restaurant and maybe even a little cosplay.
The month will round out with dishes inspired by Shōnen Jump favourite Once Piece, a bunch of Japanese cultural favourites, and culminate in the staff all wearing zombi outfits for Halloween on the 31st of October.
