The Classic Aussie roast roll has become the star of the show at Mayfield Canteen, one of the suburbs latest takeaway options.

From 10:30 am, Tuesday to Sunday, the Cauvery at Mayfield Canteen serves up The Roast of the Day alternating between pork and beefโ€ฆ With gravy, of course.

The roast is served in a buttery toasted roll, or lunch box, with a choice of trimmings including roast vegetables, hot chips, coleslaw or onion and cheese. And they’re flying out the door.

Owner, Ben Stark is a trained chef and hospitality veteran with extensive cafรฉ and catering experience says he, along with his partner Ange, is focused on providing good quality food that is also good value for money.

“Ange and I have a ton of hospitality experience between us so weโ€™d always talked about opening our own business,” Ben said.

The Mayfield Canteen concept was born out of the 2020 lockdown, where the couple saw local takeaway businesses thriving. They wanted to tap into the takeaway model to cater to today’s busy lifestyle and safeguard against future shutdowns.

“When we both lost work due to COVID, plus had our third baby on the way, we decided to look at a concept that suited todayโ€™s eating habits as well as our family life. Plus, weโ€™re Mayfield locals and we love being a part of its distinct vibe.”

Mayfield Canteen is located at 436 Maitland Road in Mayfield and is open Tuesday-Friday, 6.30 am-2.30 pm, and Saturday-Sunday, 8.30 am – 2.30 pm. The breakfast, burgers, hot food, coffee and milk bar menu is available all day, with Roast of the Day serving up from 10.30 am.
