Martha Wainwright hits Newcastle this weekend

Renowned Canadian singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright will be in Newcastle this weekend for a show at the City Hall.

Despite the challenges life has thrown her way in recent years, including a divorce, Martha remains an epitome of resilience and artistic prowess.

In 2021, she released her highly anticipated sixth studio album, Love Will Be Reborn. After a five-year hiatus between albums, the release marked a triumphant, raw and honest return to the spotlight.

The album’s title track captures the essence of hope and renewal amidst life’s trials, but it didn’t come easily.

“I was bawling,” Martha said.

“There were several years where I picked up the guitar, and I was so, so sad and depressed. I would just put it down because it was terrible.”

The show in Newcastle this weekend will feature songs from the most recent album, cuts from an impressive back catalogue and stories from her 2022 memoir, Stories I Might Regret Telling You.

Martha Wainwright will hit the stage at the City Hall with her band on Saturday, 11 May. You can find more information about the show and ticket at civictheatrenewcastle.com.au.
