Iconic character comedienne and cabaret artist Jude Bowler will be in town next week with her bold and beguiling tribute, STAGE FRIGHT ein Kabarett.
The show, part of the 2026 Newcastle Fringe Festival, pays tribute to one of the 20th centuryโs most renowned performers, Marlene Dietrich. It takes a spotlight to the legendary performer’s restless, irreverent and magnetic personality and enduring influence.
Jude Bowler, whose career spans more than 25 years, is no stranger to acclaim either. From her work with cult cabaret collective Six Quick Chicks to her award-winning double act Parlour Noir with Christa Hughes. โ which took out Best Small Cabaret at the 2025 Newcastle Fringe, she has consistently pushed the boundaries of performance with her signature blend of charm, mischief and theatrical precision.
STAGE FRIGHT ein Kabarett is a touchingly twisted affair that showcases Jude’s razor sharp wit, smoky nostalgia and theatrical flair. Alongside accompanist Frankie Bouchier, the show moves seamlessly between comedy and poignancy, capturing both the glamour and grit of cabaret culture.
The Newcastle Fringe season promises a musical journey that blends Dietrich classics with unexpected mash-ups, drawing inspiration from artists such as Lou Reed and Prince and follows a successful regional NSW tour and a well-received Sydney season, cementing Bowlerโs reputation as one of Australiaโs most distinctive cabaret voices.
STAGE FRIGHT ein Kabarett plays The Royal Exchange Theatre as part of Newcastle Fringe from 25โ29 March with performances scheduled nightly at 9pm, alongside a Sunday 4.30pm session. Tickets are on sale now from newcastlefringe.com.au – You’d be mad to miss it.
