MACMAS: Celebrating the festive season across the lake

Lake Mac looks like the place to celebrate this Christmas! From Carols and markets to festive theatre and gift-giving – It’s beginning to look a lot like MACMAS!

The Lake Macquarie Council events team have been working overtime to put together a massive lineup of festive events and holiday activities.

Start planning your festive celebrations using the info below.

Lake Mac Carols

Kicking off the festivities is the classic Christmas carol sing-along at Speers Point Park on 10 December.

This iconic free event, hosted by NBN News presenters Natasha Beyersdorf and Gavin Morris, promises an open-air Christmas extravaganza. Families can enjoy the Domaine Homes Kids Zone, food trucks, roving entertainment, and a main stage program featuring a special visit from Santa, courtesy of the crew at Empire Marina.

To ensure a hassle-free experience at Lake Mac Carols at Speers Point Park, pre-paid parking is available this year. With 600 spaces priced at $5 each, be sure to book online at lakemac.com.au/carols23 on a first-come, first-served basis.

Carols on Dobell

For those on the western side of the lake, Carols on Dobell at Wangi Wangi on 10 December is a perfect way to join the community choir and let the kids get rid of some of that pre-Christmas energy.

Carols by the Lake & Caves Christmas Carols

Residents and visitors on the eastern side of the lake can get into the festive spirit at Carols by the Lake at Croudace Bay on 17 December or the inaugural Caves Christmas Carols on 16 December.

The Nutcracker Remixed

If singing isn’t your forte, you can get into the enchanting performance of The Nutcracker Remixed at the Multi-Arts Pavilion (MAP mima) on 16 – 17 December. This innovative show reimagines the classic Tchaikovsky ballet, infusing it with contemporary music, dance, and a generous dose of festive humour, promising a delightful twist on the traditional holiday performance.

Museum of Art Culture

For unique Christmas gifts, head to the Museum of Art Culture, yapang, for the Off the Wall exhibition, featuring local art for sale from over 60 artists.

Pelican Foreshore Christmas markets

The Pelican Foreshore Christmas markets on 16 December will showcase the talents of more than 100 local artists and producers.

Mayor’s Christmas Appeal

Embrace the spirit of giving through the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal, starting on 30 November. Donations are welcomed to support those less fortunate during the holiday season.
