While a lot of people have written about Silverchair over the years the band’s bass player and drummer, Chris Joannou and Ben Gillies have kept their cards pretty close to their chests.
That will all change with the release of a new book called, Love & Pain.
In the book, the childhood friends will tell the story of growing up, starting Silverchair and the years they spent in the spotlight including the ups and downs and how the whole rollercoaster ride impacted the rest of their lives.
“When Ben and I first discussed the idea of writing a book, I realised it would be an opportunity to celebrate some of the awesome times the two of us shared and lived together, as well as reflect on some of the hard times โ in the band and in our lives,” Chris Joannou said.
“This book is a keepsake for both of us and a reminder that there is some beauty in addressing the truth of things, as well as paying respects to all aspects โ good, bad and indifferent โ of our story.”
The book promises to deliver a treasure trove of rock โnโ roll stories alongside tales of the love and pain that came with being in one of the biggest bands in the world.
From the cost of fame to the intense pressure, the release promises a raw and honest account of the friendship between Ben and Chris and their relationships with people around the band including their friends and family members.
“Fundamentally, our story is a great one. An extraordinary one. Some of it may seem beyond belief, but we lived it,” Ben Gillies said.
We were there. It all happened. I want to document it for my sons to read when theyโre old enough โ and we owe it to our incredibly loyal fans.”
Love & Pain by Ben Gillies and Chris Joannou will be released by Hachette Australia on 27 September 2023. Gillies and Joannou will also narrate an audiobook version. Find out more by visiting hachette.com.au.
