It’s a celebration that’s been 150 years in the making.
And next week, the community of Lambton will be out in force to kick start the Newcastle suburb’s 150th birthday!
The festivities will commence with a traditional smoking ceremony on Monday 21 June (10am to 11pm) at the Lambton Park Memorial Gates, ushering in a week of fun, and festivities for the whole family.
One highlight of this auspicious occasion is sure to be Newcastle Theatre Company’s magical mystery Living History tours where you can step back in time with none other than the founder of Lambton Mr Thomas Croudace and other local luminaries from years gone by as you walk the streets of the historic suburb.
Other highlights include the Love Lambton Night at Lambton Bowling Club on Saturday 26 June, where you can dance the night away like it’s 1871, the massive birthday party in Lambton Park on Sunday 27 June, that will feature an array of food trucks, live moving theatre, the one, and only Bob Corbett singing the suburb’s unofficial anthem The Lambton Lights, and more!
Oh, and who could forget the Elder Street One Day Sale and the Love Lambton Lunch at Lizotte’s featuring performances from Diesel, Piper Butcher, and a special preview of Candy Land: A Circus Cabaret.
Honestly, there’s more fun to be had here than. you can poke a stick at.
For the history buffs, Lambton was first incorporated as a municipality on June 24 1871, and was the first municipality in all of Newcastle to be illuminated by electric light.
Many happy returns, Lambton. And here’s to 150 more!
