The Fernleigh Track has been miniaturised to just 60 centimetres, along with other local landmarks, in a new children’s book celebrating the beauty of Lake Macquarie.
Launched last week by Lake Macquarie City Council’s Lifelong Learning team, the book features a playful yet educational journey through the region and illustrations by Chrissy McYoung.
Each double-page spread explores a different location around the lake, from the sandy shores of Redhead Beach to the serene expanses of the Watagan Mountains.
“I was aware of some places selected for the book but enjoyed exploring each spot in the local area,” McYoung said.
“Drawing the Fernleigh Track, I spent many hours cycling up and down, stopping, exploring and drawing.
“It’s full of things to find – a mix of map-style and scenic landscapes.”
The book will be available a Lake Mac Libraries and the Museum of Art and Culture, yapang. You can also grab a copy at this year’s Lake Mac Carols at Speers Point Park.
