Smile, Newcastle KFC fanciers…you’re on the world stage!
That’s because the fast-food giant has unveiled the first-ever drive-thru only store on the planet and it’s in little old Broadmeadow.
“This is a very exciting day, not just for Newcastle, but also for KFC as well,” KFC Australia Chief Development Officer Inara Gravitis said.
The concept boasts five lanes and relies on customers downloading and ordering from the KFC app or website and is set to turn the way people consume fast food on its head.
However, Inara added that people who were still after a ‘traditional’ drive-thru experience will still be catered for.
“We’ve still got two traditional lanes so customers can absolutely come down and use the old speaker box like normal, but what we are trying to encourage is for them to order from the app or the website,” she said.
After placing orders and arriving on-site, customers then enter a unique four-digit code on a handy touchscreen reliever, which is then delivered to the kitchen.
All you have to do is sit back, relax until the boom gate opens then roll on to the collection window and viola!
The lanes also have screens that display trivia questions while you wait and Inara added there were plans to screen cricket during the summer months.
If you haven’t downloaded the app or ordered from the website, you can also park and scan one of the handy QR codes which will take you to the KFC site.
“We are continually looking for ways to offer our customers even faster and more convenient ordering. KFC is committed to investing in technology and innovative restaurant designs. – so a delicious Kentucky Fried Chicken meal is only a click away,” Inara said.
“Since launching the app in 2013, it’s been downloaded more than 1.3 million times, making our customers’ ordering experience as customisable, convenient and time-saving as possible.”
The first KFC Drive-Thru Only restaurant is located at 80 Lambton Road, Broadmeadow and will open its lanes from 10am on Wednesday 13 November.
It will operate from 10am to midnight, seven days a week.
