KEVIN BENNETT: Harmony, liberation and the Bennett Bowtell & Urquhart show this Saturday

Bennett Bowtell & Urquhart play Lizotte’s in Newcastle this Saturday, 15 September

Kevin Bennett is a guitarist’s, guitarist. He’s one of the players that other guitar players refer to when they talk about their inspiration and style. He’ll be picking the strings at Lizotte’s in the Bennett Bowtell & Urquhart show this Saturday, 15 September, so we jumped on the phone to have a chat.

During the interview, we asked him what it was like to work with the amazing women like Lyn Bowtell and Felicity Urquhart.

“Liberating” exclaims Kevin.

“We’ve developed such a bond between us over the years that nothing’s off the table when we write, and I think that’s allowed us to produce some great songs”.

Kevin is referring to the groups latest album, Weeds. It’s Bennett Bowtell & Urquhart’s second album and features 11 new tracks combining acoustic instruments and three-part vocal harmonies that the group have become renowned for.

“I’m not a natural harmony singer, but the girls just listen to what I’m doing and work around it. It works because it means we’re not just singing the stock standard 3 part harmony” he says.

You can hear it for yourself live when the group hit the stage at Lizotte’s this Saturday, 15 September. Click here to grab tickets.
