Next to answer the call of the Newcastle Live Desert 5 challenge is Karyn Raftery.
Karyn has been performing in some of Newcastle’s most popular bands for over 20 years. She is best known to many as her alter-ego, Georgie, from the award winning band The Curvetttes, playing to record breaking numbers in venues all over NSW. Karyn has worked in many aspects of the music industry – as a session singer, vocal teacher and as an Entertainment Consultant.
RUMOURS – FLEETWOOD MAC | This is the only easy choice on my list. Dad had the album, on vinyl of course, when I was a kid. I loved that album – every song on it. There are quite a few photos on the inside cover, and I remember being completely fascinated by every one and would pour over them while listening to the album as loudly as the record player would allow.
TUESDAY NIGHT MUSIC CLUB – SHERYL CROW | Don’t make me choose just one Sheryl album! Ideally I’d make my own compilation from all of them, but Tuesday Night Music Club is one I would miss if I had to be without it, so it wins for this list. I love Sheryl!
PURPLE RAIN – PRINCE AND THE REVOLUTION | This album is like a soundtrack to my early 20’s…so many memories! I finally got to see Prince in concert a couple of years ago with my good friend Dan; dancing and singing our lungs out in the back row is yet another memory I treasure.
UP ALL NIGHT – THE WAIFS | One of the best acts I’ve ever seen live. The girls can sing! Who wouldn’t crave a little reminder of home and a thick Aussie accent when you’re stuck on an island? “I wonder what I’m missing, think of songs I’ve never heard…”
THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION – STEVIE WONDER | O.K. So maybe it’s cheating a little to include an album with 2 discs, but you’ll have to fight me to get it out of my back pack…wait, have I got a backpack on this island? I hope so – it’s got my Walkman in it…and my lip balm…and my slippers…
