With the forecast for the weekend predicting rain (thank gawd), it could be the perfect time to while away the hours curled up on the couch indulging in a bit of harmless TV binging.
There’s certainly no shortage of binge-worthy fare on the likes of Stan and Netflix, and that is certainly true for people who prefer their escapism to be more of the factual variety.
So in that spirit, here are five docos that have recently caught my eye that would be perfect to check out this (hopefully) rainy weekend.
1. Bikrim: Yogi, Guru, Predator
If you haven’t heard of Bikrim Yoga yet, someone you know most definitely has. They talk about sweating a lot probably and are constantly on the hunt for ways to convince you to do the same.
This particular documentary however, has a lot less to do with Yoga, and more to do with the fact that the man behind the movement is a sexual predator and an egotistical maniac.
2. Miss Americana: Taylor Swift
Whether you’re a legitimate fan, a doubter, a hater, or just a curious human, this is the doco for you.
Tay Tay has stayed quiet for so damn long about pretty much everything rocking around in her little universe, and thankfully, this amazing production is here to put our minds at ease.
And yes, it did take her that long to eat god damn burrito. #prayfortaylor
3. Don’t F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer
This one should most definitely come with a warning to all pet lovers out there, because personally I’m still a little scarred from this one.
This is about the hunt for a murderous, self-absorbed, complete and utterly out of control human, by some amateur sleuths on the interwebs.
It’s graphic because you actually get to see portions of the videos that made him infamous but it’s pretty darn gripping and I’m into it.
4. The Mind of Aaron Hernandez
Since it is the week of the Superbowl, is there a better time to watch a doco about a football player turned killer? Maybe, I’m not really sure.
But this three-part series is addictive as heck, and it will leave you with a lot of questions so be ready for that one.
We hear about people who are wrongly convicted all the time, and as people we love to poke holes in the judicial system (especially when it’s the American Judicial system) and fight for the underdog.
This doco will leave you divided and uncertain but it is pretty enthralling all the same.
