Stars of stage roll into Newcastle for Junior Theatre Festival

Rob Mills, Vidya Makan, and TikTok star Daniel J. Mertzlufft will hit Newcastle this weekend to present at the Junior Theatre Festival.

The biggest festival of youth musical theatre in Australia will see 1,300 students, their parents, and 24 performance groups take over the Civic Theatre for a weekend of presentations, workshops and performances.

“Not only do we get to showcase the majestic Civic Theatre and other cultural assets of Newcastle directly to our festival participants, but each group returns to their home cities with a media release outlining their involvement and any accolades received as part of their performance at the festival,” Junior Theatre Festival Australia producer, Daniel Stoddart.

Now in its eighth year the 2023 festival has transcended from being just a talent showcase and now stands as a force for the city’s economy, projected to bring an impressive economic benefit of around $368,000 to local businesses this week.

“By supporting events like the Junior Theatre Festival Australia, we are building Newcastle’s reputation as a hub for education and creative industries, as well as a city which can host some of the best international events,” Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes said.

The Junior Theatre Festival Australia will take over the Civic Theatre in Newcastle for two days from Saturday 28 October. To find out more visit oztheatrics.com.
