Not a fan of football? Looking for a venue that wont be blasting out the State Of Origin on (May 27) Wednesday night? We’ve got you covered! Two of the city’s most loved singer song writers will take to the stage at 5 Sawyers on Darby street tomorrow night as part of their Live Sawyers series.
Jack Dawson and James Thompson with special guest Davey Craddock will be hitting the stage at 5 Sawyers from 8:30pm on Wednesday night.
Jack Dawson’s dynamic and unorthodox style of playing has captivated audiences from stages and street corners from Melbourne to Montreal. In late 2012 Jack released his debut EP, Instrumentals #1, a collection of pieces composed in real time performing in public places across Australia. His performances are a marriage of folk, blues and jazz with modern appointments and playing techniques. Melodic themes and harmonies are punctuated with driving percussion, all performed simultaneously on one guitar. During August of 2013, Jack was the Museum of Contemporary Art’s resident performer shortly before embarking upon a two month tour of North America. In January and February this year Jack was also invited to be the only touring musical act for the Australian Surf Movie Festival playing sold out venues Australia wide.
In 2012, James Thomson released his debut self-titled album through independent Sydney label, Laughing Outlaw Records. The album was praised by The Sydney Morning Herald as an impressive collection of “measured-pace ballads that ache in all the right places”. The record also received nation-wide airplay, the first single from the record – Car Park Blues, spent five weeks at number 2 in AMRAP’s AirIt Charts. The sense of restlessness in Thomson’s song writing is organic; spending much of his childhood shuffling between Sydney’s Northern Beaches and rural towns between the Central West and Hunter Valley regions of NSW. In late 2013, James followed that innate travelling spirit and went to explore the musically rich regions of the American Deep South.
