The Crystals’ “Wall of Sound” recordings, produced by the legendary Phil Spector, such as ‘And Then He Kissed Me’, ‘Da Do Ron Ron’ are regarded as some of the greatest songs of all time. The all-female American vocal group featuring Dee Dee Kenninebrew will give local music fans a chance to hear those songs live when they roll into Wests Leagues Club on Wednesday the 29th July.
Dee Dee started singing professionally at age 15 with The Crystals, honing her craft while working and watching acts like “Jackie Wilson, Sam Cooke, Dionne Warwick, The Commodores,” and many others. Dee Dee went to school with Gregory Hines, Patty Duke, and Bernadette Peters, among other stars. While the original girls left one by one in the sixties for various personal reasons and other pursuits, she has carried on The Crystals all the way into the new millennium.
We chatted to Dee Dee ahead of the group’s arrival in Newcastle.
