If you miss Terra Lightfoot’s Friday Gum Ball set you’ll kick yourself

Canadian singer-songwriter Terra Lightfoot will be in the Hunter this weekend for her Friday night set at The Gum Ball. We were blown away with the music we heard on her latest album, New Mistakes and after a quick chat over the phone last week we’re telling everyone we know not to miss her Gum Ball set. Here’s why…

Listening to Terra’s voice conjures up comparisons of Heart’s Ann Wilson and grunge rocker Dave Grohl. But saying that doesn’t account for Terra’s unmistakingly original approach to her vocal sound and phrasing, it’s raw and refined all at the same time. She sings with all the power and passion of someone who doesn’t care if they hit the notes, but she does… every time.

It’s grungy blues with all the bells and whistles of an artist who truly knows the craft of songwriting. The songs, especially on the new album New Mistakes, are relatable and poetic. There’s no doubt there’s a life well lived in Terra’s musical output.

Those songs have landed the singer-songwriter a couple of nominations for this year’s Juno Awards – Canada’s music industry awards. You can check out her live performance at the event below.

“I purchased the SG by chance, but it’s become a huge part of our sound,” Terra tells us.

That chance purchase has quickly become Terra’s signature sound. And you can’t deny the look – A lead singer rockin’ an a Gibson SG is totally iconic and Terra pulls it off with originality and swagger.

Last November, Australian audiences were lucky to see Terra and her band performing alongside William Crighton as part of his ‘Stand On The Side Of Love’ tour. And let us tell you, there’s no shoegazing going on here.

“William was an amazing host, we loved every moment of that tour and had some really great shows”.
