Hunter Valley students head to Sydney for Schools Spectacular

Six Hunter Valley students have been selected as featured performers for this year’s Schools Spectacular.

Shanaya Buddingh and Willem Szabo will represent Hunter School of the Performing Arts as featured dancers in the show alongside schoolmates Georgia Dully and Symphony Riley, who are feature vocalists, and Jorden Leggett who has been selected as a featured instrumentalist. Josie McIntosh from Rutherford Technology High School will also take to the stage as a featured dancer.

They will head to the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney next month to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the largest performing arts event in the southern hemisphere

The students went through a rigorous audition process before being chosen from more than 900 nominations and will make up part of the 149 students from across the state who will feature in the show.

“To be chosen to perform at this world-class event is not only a testament to their talent but also an opportunity for students to nurture their love for performing while working alongside some of the finest talents in the entertainment industry,” Executive producer Richard Spiewak said.

“The featured artists are some of our brightest stars and, alongside all this year’s performers, they will put on a spectacular show that highlights the incredible talent within our public schools.

“We’ve already seen a sneak peek of their talent during the recent rehearsals, and I can guarantee that this year’s show is going to be fabulous.”

This year’s show will feature an 80-piece symphony orchestra, a stage band, a 2,600-voice choir, 2,300 dancers, and a diverse ensemble of performers, all guided by a team of over 600 teachers.

Rehearsals for the event commenced during the recent school holidays. The rehearsals involved rigorous practice sessions, personalized vocal workshops, styling and costume fittings, and essential well-being sessions, ensuring a spectacular and seamless performance for the upcoming November shows.

The 2023 Schools Spectacular will take over Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney on 24 and 25 November. Tickets are on sale now through Ticketek.
