Hunter Valley set to sizzle at inaugural Beer & BBQ Fest at Hope Estate

Love a quality brew? Does the idea of BBQ make your mouth water in anticipation?

Well, you’d do well to get along to Hope Estate this weekend for the inaugural Hunter Valley Beer & BBQ Festival!

A celebration of all things beer and BBQ, this festival brings together two of Australia’s favourite pastimes.

BBQ, from low ‘n slow through to grilling and masterfully brewed beer are both growth segments, especially in our neck of the woods.

“We’re really excited to be hosting Beer & BBQ, which will be our second lifestyle event for the season,” Hope Estate owner Michael Hope said.

“We know that lifestyle events have a massive appeal to both locals and visitors to the area and believe the combination of beer and BBQ is a match made in Heaven. Our aim is to not only make it fun and educational but an event that people include in their calendar every year.”

BEER

Take a journey through the ten tasting tents; each showcasing a number of different varieties classed under the style of beer. With over 40 varieties available to taste from Lagers to NEIPAs and Porters – plus everything in between!

Everyone over 18 will receive a souvenir tasting glass and 10 tasting tokens on entry along with an event program listing every beer (or cider) available.
For those thirsty for more, additional tasting tokens are available to purchase inside the venue.

And for the adventurous, there’s the Strong Beer Masterclass where Head Brewer, Matt Hogan, will guide you through a flight of the brewery’s strongest beers and talk about the ingredients, processes and techniques used to create these high-strength varieties.

The masterclasses are run at 10.30am, 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm with limited seats available.

BBQ

With rounds of both the Steak Cookoff Association and Australasian Barbeque Alliance Championships being held over the weekend, there’ll be more BBQ than you can poke a stick at!

Revellers can watch the pitmasters at work as they compete for prizes and championship points. Saturday will see the Steak Cookoff Association competitors working on the three categories of Burger, Hot Dog and Steak.

Sunday is when the Australasian Barbeque Alliance competition heats up with teams covering the five hand-in categories of Chicken, Pork, Beef, Pork Ribs and Lamb.

After seeing and smelling the competition entries, what better way to satisfy your hunger than more BBQ from a range of vendors in the Food Court? With an emphasis on BBQ, vendors will offer everything from ribs to burgers, bratwurst, brisket, burritos and more. The vegetarians and vegans will also be well catered for.

If you’re looking for a break away from the crowd, there’s also the Ultimate or VIP lunch options where you can sit and watch the festival from the elevated decks of the Hope Estate building.

MORE

Of course, it wouldn’t be an event at Hope Estate without music and the Festival stage has a line-up of artists playing throughout the weekend.

Wine lovers are also catered for in the wine tasting marquee with the tasting fee including a glass of your favourite with cheese.

See if you are a future PBR contender with the Bucking Bull challenge. Or visit the caricature artist. Come on Sunday for some Manscaping at the Dapper Domain barber.

The Kids’ Zone will keep your small people entertained with a complimentary jumping castle. There will also be laughing clowns and treats in the Kids Zone.

And, if you’re still wanting more, there’s market stalls offering an eclectic mix of wares!

GETTING THERE

There’s plenty of free parking on-site although sometimes the road network struggles with high volumes of traffic.

If you are planning to make a day of it, Rover Coaches can get you there hassle free and are operating services to the Festival from local accommodation venues as well as Newcastle, Maitland and Singleton.

WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?

  • The Festival runs from 10am-5pm both days.
  • In true festival style the majority of stalls will be outside so please come prepared for weather conditions on the day.
  • Most of the stalls will be cash only. There will be an ATM on-site.
  • This is a non-BYO (food and drink) event and this will be enforced at the gates.
  • You can purchase beer and wine to takeaway which will operate duty-free style with purchases made during the day being available for collection as you exit the venue.
  • Cellar Door tastings are on-hold but will be back to normal at 10am Monday.

Tickets are available from hopeestate.com.au/beerbbq or at the gate (unless sold out prior). If you’re someone who likes to save a few dollars remember to pre-purchase your tickets online before 6pm on Friday August 2 to take advantage of the early bird pricing.
