Mondays can make us all go a little crazy sometimes, which is exactly why you need some left of centre, mash of genre, mind bending, delightful morsel of a tune to get you through the day. This particular track caught my eye, purely because of the title. I’ve since listened to it about 4.5 times, and I am still deciding whether I absolutely love it, or I’m just trying to work it out. Probably a little from column A and a little from column B.
This is Catnip, and their song ‘The Cat Inspector’. It crosses so many different genres that it literally includes something for everyone so just wrap your headphones around your afternoon and wait for your queue. The thing I love most about this track however, is the fact that the band are speaking for cats. At least I think that’s what they’re doing. But these kids with their music who knows what’s going on.
Regardless, this is a band that I would most definitely love to see live, purely because I would just love to see them pull of this crazy and funky-fresh sound in real time. From trumpet, to keys, to dirty (dirty) guitar work, to rap they have it all. On their Facebook page the band self describes their inception into the music world as: “What started as covers in the dank depths of the jam room, illuminated only by the guiding beacon of a plasma dolphin, the group started developing their own grooves which caused cats to funk out and get low”.
