Featuring a formidable array of new and pre-loved vinyl, tapes and CDs, as well as tasty merch, books and even turntables, Hiss & Crackle can scratch any music nerd itch you can imagine.
A staunch supporter of local music, Hiss & Crackle’s Newy music and merch selections are wide, to say the least. AND they’re going one better by letting you hear some of those homegrown artists up-close-and-personal as you peruse the stacked vinyl bins, with in-store performances.
A great way to discover new music in a non-pub environment, Hiss & Crackle’s gigs have become a regular fixture at the Wallsend-based store and below is a rundown on everything happening on the Hiss & Crackle stage this month.
The Music Biz Is
Ben Steer’s Continuous Music, an online music business education platform, has teamed up with Australian music publication Temporary Dreamer to present a series of workshops, meetups and discussions designed for people wanting to find out more about how the music business works.
Hiss & Crackle Records will play host to two workshops in March. The first workshop will focus on Artist Management giving you some valuable insights into what a manager actually does and why you might need one.
The second workshop will cover marketing, publicity and promotion. You’ll learn how to promote your music, why marketing is important and how to develop a brand.

Human Failure + Straight To A Tomb
Hiss & Crackle’s instore live music series kicks off in March with a doubleheader of local band Human Failure and legendary Sydney hardcore punk rockers, Straight To A Tomb. The bands will be celebrating the launch of their split 7-inch vinyl release with limited copies available for purchase instore.
The event is open for all ages, and you’ll need to purchase a copy of the split 7-inch or other available merchandise for entry The bands will have badges from $3 as well as CDs and T-Shirts.

The Shadow Cast: Lachlan X Morris & Boots Porter
Newcastle favourites Lachlan X Morris & Boots Porter’s The Shadow Cast have a residency at Hiss & Crackle on the 2nd weekend of every month and it’s proving to be quite the gig.
On stage, between some pretty choice banter, the duo performs acoustic versions of their original material, including Lachlan X Morris’s amazing Shadow Lover, and a smattering of Americana covers. It’s a totally entertaining musical accompaniment while browsing for your next vinyl binge.

The last band to hit the Hiss & Crackle stage in March are relative newcomers, Science Rockets. The local band released their debut single, Kintsugi, late last year. The song is a hard hitter dripping in reverb and delay with a strong vocal and plenty of attitude.
Entry to the all ages in store performance is free.
