HE STILL FEELS LIKE DANCING: Leo Sayer can’t wait to rock Toronto for Live On The Lake

For the legendary Leo Sayer, there are few places that red rather perform than our neck of the woods.

“Newcastle and surrounds has such great music fans – it is a definite rock capital and it’s always an absolute treat to visit,” Leo told Newcastle Live.

The 71-year-old hitmaker was last in town for the Live At The Foreshore festival back in March and he said the audience reaction was testament to the city’s love of great music.

“That really was a great little festival and I had such fun,” he said. “The weather was absolutely dreadful but those Newcastle fans didn’t let it bother them they just had a great time in ponchos.”

Leo’s love of our region will bring him back, this October, this time at Toronto Hotel as part of its Live On The Lake series.

“I’m really looking forward to this one,” he said. “The location is great and if the weather hold out it’s going to be absolutely brilliant.”

The show is part of Leo’s ever-expanding Just A Boy tour that is seeing him perform a set jam-packed full of hits such as the irrepressible You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, The Show Must Go On, One Man Band, and When I Need You.

It’s not all going to be hits and memories though, with Leo admitting he will also be including cuts from his latest release, Selfie which he recorded aT his home-studio in the Southern Highlands.

For Leo, who has been treading the boards for more than 40 years said he had no intentions of stepping off stage as it was, in a sense, his fountain of youth.

“Performing keeps me young,” Leo said. “While all of the travelling and the logistics of touring can definitely take a toll, the act of performing is completely different.

“I was recently in the UK and came back to Australia with some awful back pain. Anyway, this last week I was doing a little gig in Tasmania and here I was jumping on the tables and such and the next day I felt absolutely fine.”

Leo added: “I’ve got no time for the gym or anything like that, so I think performing is my fitness routine.”
