Cruella, Mary Poppins, and The Mad Hatter will be making an appearance in Hamilton’s newly renovated James Street Plaza tomorrow, Thursday 4th November, for Book Day 2021.
After many postponements due to COVID-19, Hamilton’s three popular, long-standing
bookshops and the local library will come together to bring literature to life with performances and book giveaways.
The book characters will be appearing from 10 am till 1 pm at Qs Books, James St Plaza, Rice’s Book Shop and MacLean’s Booksellers.
“Hamilton is fortunate to host 3three of the city’s most iconic bookstores which have been serving the discerning bookworm for over 30 years, Qs Books, MacLean’s Booksellers and more recently Rice’s Books,” Hamilton Business Improvement Association Chair, Evan Reid said
“We are also pleased to collaborate with Newcastle Theatre Company to bring the characters to life for the day and to once again bring some fun to the shopping precinct.”
The Hamilton Business Improvement Association is part of the Business Improvement Association of Newcastle. They are a not for profit independent business organisation that represents people who own or occupy commercial spaces.
“This was a great way to celebrate with the locals after coming out of lockdown. We offered home delivery and pick up from the store but there’s nothing like being totally open to the public again. We plan to dress up as book characters too and have a big sale just to say thank you for the support,” Sandra Maloy of QS Books said.
The Hamilton Business Improvement Association’s Book Day 2021 kicks off at 10am on Thursday 4th November.
The book characters will come to life from 10am till 1pm at the following locations.
10AM – QS BOOKS
10.45AM – JAMES ST PLAZA
11.30AM – RICE’S BOOK SHOP
12.15PM – MACLEAN’S BOOKSELLERS
