Do you have any pics in your camera roll or photo album that shows off Newcastle in all its glory? Well Greg and Sylvia Ray want to hear from you.
The local historians, responsible for such pictorial books as Newcastle: Our Town Revisited, Travelling Through Time in Newcastle and the Hunter and Newcastle: The Missing Years, have put a call out for eagle-eyed local snappers to submit photos for their latest project.
While plans for a 2020 photo book had to be shelved due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Greg and Sylvia are forging ahead with a concept to depict Newcastle at a time when digital photography was starting to take hold.
“In the future, most photos from this period won’t be replicable from negatives that might be safely stored in drawers and cupboards. Their survival will depend on the durability of digital media, and who knows how that will work out?,” Greg and Sylvia said in a statement.
To that end, the authors are looking for photos that depict Newcastle and surrounding regions from New Year’s Eve 1999 to 2020.
Best of all, if your pic is selected to appear, you’ll get yourself a free book!
“We are looking for striking photos that might depict a wide range of subjects, from people to places to events. They might be funny, sombre, inspiring, informative,” Greg and Sylvia said.
The pair hope to publish Newcastle and the Hunter Region, by Ourselves: 2000 – 2020 this November.
Head here for more information and to submit your photos.
