After making a name for themselves in Newcastle for serving up authentic and fresh fare at King Street’s Humble Thai, owners, Wirat and Nikki are taking things to the next level.
The foodie couple is expanding operations, opening a new restaurant The Greatful Thai, in Charlestown Square, this week.
Dubbed Humble Thai’s little sister’, the new eatery threw open its doors on Monday (for takeaway, delivery and 10 guest maximum dine-in), and features a stacked menu filled with authentic Thai fare and some exciting fusion flourishes (Massaman tacos, for example).
We also can’t wait to check out Grateful Thai’s breakfast menu that offers up a range of traditional Thai day-starters as well as interesting open face toast creations including pork floss nam prik pao (chilli paste), grilled Thai spiced chicken and avocado, and even pandan custard toast!
And judging by the rousing reception Newy foodies have given Humble Thai since opening back in February last year, all signs point to this menu being one to write home about.
Originally from Thailand, husband and wife team Wirat and Nikki moved to Newcastle almost 10 years ago.
Wirat was born into a family of engineers, so followed in his family’s footsteps and completed a degree in chemical engineering. He soon realised working in an office was not for him, so decided to follow his dream of becoming a chef.
Operating with a motto of ‘be grateful, stay humble’, Wirat and Nikki said they were excited at the prospect of satisfying even more customers with their lovingly prepared dishes.
“Our team would like to thank our customers for giving us a wonderful opportunity to service you. It is our desire to keep you satisfied with our food and service – you are our inspiration in doing our very best. Our name will remind us all the time.
“Thank you and remember – we value you.”
The Grateful Thai is located at Charlestown Square and will be open seven days for takeaway, delivery and dine-in (10 person max) for breakfast (9am – 12pm), lunch (11am – 3pm) and dinner (3pm – 9pm).
