If you thought that the canteen at your local sports ground would be the last palace to find some culinary culture, you’d be dead wrong.
That’s because the Newcastle Macedonia Sports Club is serving up an array of Macedonian treats for each home game of Northern New South Wales National Premier League side Broadmeadow Magic.
Aside from the standard canteen fare of hot chips, schnitty rolls and steak sangas, Magic Park patrons can now tuck into some multicultural fare as they watch the action on the field.
Kicking off the initiative last Sunday for Broadmeadow Magic’s home fixture against Charlestown Azzuri, the kitchen cooked up two traditional Macedonian dishes.
The first was a true winter warmer – Tavce Gravce so Koftinja or Macedonian baked beans with home-made rissoles (yummo) while the second – Shopska Salata or Macedonian chopped salad with feta cheese (double yummo).
Also, these canteen boffins are also offering 100 per cent homemade Kebapi which you can enjoy served on a plate or in a roll.
How good is that ?!?
While there’s no word on what the specials will be for Magic’s at-home clash against Edgeworth next Sunday 2 August, you can bet that they will be pulling out all stops given the fixture falls on Ilinden – the Republic Day of Macedonia.
