Indie-rock legends You Am I will ring in 2020 in style at Newcastle Foreshore.
The Berlin Chair hitmakers will lead the musical charge for our fair city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations joined by Jets Play Jets, reggae rockers, Rum Jungle and UK-based EDM duo Antony and Cleopatra.
Even on an off night, multiple ARIA award winners You Am I are one of the most watchable bands on the circuit and are sure to deliver a an all killer-no-filler set of cuts from their nine-album catalogue.
Expect Tim Rogers and co to rip through such classics as Purple Sneakers, Mr Milk and Rumble.
It wouldn’t be a New Year’s celebration without those fireworks and after You Am I have finished their high-energy set, the night will culminate in a dazzling 15-minute fireworks display at 9pm.
“We are fortunate to have a beautiful harbour and foreshore location for our fireworks display and my favourite part of the evening is seeing the awe and wonder on children’s faces as the spectacular colours and sparkling lights fill the sky,” City of Newcastle councillor Carol Duncan said.
“Back by popular demand this year is the sensory zone which provides a safe base from where registered participants can explore the whole event or simply relax and enjoy the music and fireworks,” Cr Duncan added.
The celebrations will also feature a kids’ zone with inflatable slides and jumping castles while local artist Bliss Cavanagh will create a magical harbourside sensory experience for people with disabilities and their families.
Council will also be fundraising on the day for the Red Cross, collecting cash donations to help those affected by bushfires and drought.
The Newcastle NYE festivities kick off from 5pm on Tuesday 31 December. Head here for more information.
