After starting 2020 strong with the cathartic single Tired Town in February, and wowing us with the recent With A Little Help From My Friends iso-collaboration, Newcastle’s Glover’s Lane have dropped another single.

Lonely On Your Own is a brooding piano-driven soul number that revels in a downtrodden, dive-bar feel – a vibe well illustrated in the accompanying clip, directed by Josh Holliday.

Its downbeat feel is reminiscent of the more sombre moments of the Whitlams or even Tom Waits if he didn’t sound like he needed to neck about a thousand Soothers.

The song builds to a dynamic crescendo and by the time singer Woody McLean belts out the righteously indignant refrain of “sick of all the sycophants and their sycophantic ways,” we are right there with him.

Not afraid to wear their socio-political heart n their sleeve the band says was “born from the distress of repeated inaction from our leaders, and the disparate world view between those in power and the people they represent.”

Having only been a ‘thing’ since 2018, Glovers Lane have definitely burst out of the gate strong with a crop of great singles including last year’s I’ll Be Coming Home Soon which made its to our Best Newy Songs of 2019 poll.

We can’t wait to see what these guys come up with next.
