Lake Macquarie residents will get an opportunity to clear out their hazardous household waste this March at the annual Chemical CleanOut event.

Organized to promote safe disposal practices, this free initiative allows locals to rid their homes of potentially harmful materials without compromising the environment.

You’ll be required to remain in your vehicle during the Cleanout process. For safety and efficiency. rrained operators will remove the waste directly from car boots, trays, or trailers.

Items accepted include solvents, household cleaners, pesticides, and car and household batteries, with limits of up to 20 litres or 20 kilograms per itemโ€”except for paint, which is accepted in larger quantities of up to 100 litres, provided itโ€™s stored in 20L containers.

The event also covers the disposal of smoke detectors, motor oils, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, and fluorescent tubes, among others.

The Chemical CleanOut is an excellent opportunity for the Lake Macquarie community to contribute to a safer and cleaner environment while responsibly disposing of problem waste.

The Lake Mac Chemical CleanOut is happening on Saturday, 15 March 2025, at Rathmines Boat Ramp. For more information, including what waste can be disposed of at the Chemical CleanOut, visit epa.nsw.gov.au.
