GALLERY: Words & Music at the Newcastle Writers Festival

The Words & Music event returned to the stage at The Conservatorium as part of the Newcastle Writers Festival over the weekend.

Hosted by entertainment journalist and author Nick Milligan, the gala festival event celebrated its second year with an evening of songs inspired by influential writers.

This year local artists like Elijah Moss, Piper Butcher, Adam Newling, Nina Romeru, Lachlan X Morris and Bray Porter performed alongside Deborah Conway, Natalie Damjanovich-Napoleon and Midnight Oil’s Jim Moginie.

Deborah Conway and Willy Zygier performed Serpent’s Tooth after Deborah read from the critically acclaimed memoir, The Book of Life.

One of the highlights of the event saw Moginie perform a rendition of the Oil’s classic Short Memory on the Conservatorium’s Stuart & Sons 108 key grand piano.

Local photographer, Juan Mahony was there to capture it all. You can find a gallery of his photos below.
