FROMAGE FAVES: Top places to grab a burg for International Cheeseburger Day!

Hey, burger fans…did you know that this week, Wednesday in fact, is International Cheeseburger Day?

The granddaddy of all burgs, and a potent symbol of the allure of post-WWII capitalism, there are few things as satisfying and delicious as a perfectly cooked cheeseburger!

We certainly love our “cheesies’ here in Newcastle, so in that spirit where are our suggestions for the best places to celebrate International Cheeseburger Day.

Treat yo self!

The Edwards

148 Parry St, Newcastle West

We are beyond stoked that this awesome eatery is back one the scene after being gutted by fire back in June last year.

And like a phoenix, The Edwards has well and truly risen from those ashes and their cheeseburger is a shining example of that fact.

Dubbed the Eddie’s Burger, the Edwards concoction – course ground beef, double cheese, iceberg lettuce, onion, tomato, aoli, and mustard is an absolute cheesy delight!

Milky Lane

13 Darby St, Newcastle

Known for its freakishly large burgers and shakes, this hip-hop inspired eatery is able to dial it back a tad when it counts and it always counts when it comes to cheeseburgers.

Their entry-level Milky Lane burger (Wagyu Beef Pattie, Double American Cheese, Butter Lettuce, Pickles, Diced Onions, Sliced Tomato, ML Sauce, ML Ketchup) is maybe the littlest kid on the Milky Lane block but it sure as heck packs a flavour punch.

Rascal

1/266 King St, Newcastle

While the tagline of this popular haunt is “burgers, chicken, anarchy,” Rascal also does a fine line in cheeseburgers, too.

While these guys are definitely fans of crazy burger concoctions (just check out their weekly specials), their cheeseburger is exactly what it should be – simple, well-balanced flavours and, most importantly, fresh!

Newy Burger Co

459 Hunter St, Newcastle

One of the elder burger statesmen on this list, Newy Burgo Co has been satiating Novocastrians’ need for well-cooked ‘steamed hams’ for some time now, and we hope that continues for some time to come.

This writer always orders the cheeseburger on any maiden voyage to a new burger joint (because hey, if theu can’t make a cheeseburger, how the hell are they going to do anything even slightly more elaborate, right?).

Suffice to say that the quality of this cheeseburger, dubbed The Newy, that it is always my go-to!

It should be yours, too!

McDonald’s

Literally everywhere

You can’t really write about cheeseburgers without mentioning this juggernaut of fast food.

Sure, they RARELY look like the pictures and they are a far cry from the version that made Maccas a global force of fast-food domination, but there is something satisfying about biting into one of these babies at King Street after a heavy night out on the town.

We’ve all been there!

To celebrate the auspicious day, McDonald’s is getting in on the act by offering cheeseburgers for just $1 via the MyMaccas app.

  1. Good Afternoon Newcastle Live,

To be honest with you, I’m very disappointed at this list. Not only has your list disrespectfully excluded several amazing cheeseburger options in Newcastle, it has blatantly spat in the face of hard working local business owners.

To so publicly, and forcefully, endorse a fast-food chain responsible for countless deaths worldwide whilst non-mentioning several high quality establishments reeks of either paid advertisement or a hatred for the very soul of what I believe is one of Newcastle’s best qualities; pride of place.

In short, your article is negligent. To think that anybody from/visiting Newcastle could see this list and make a decision based on what you’ve written make me extremely concerned, and I hope next time you publish such uneducated ramblings you remember that’s your liability.

I can assure you, I will not rest until this article has been removed or until your disrespect, on such an important day, has been publicly addressed.
