Phil Franklin will hit the stage at the Wickham Park Hotel this Saturday night with his band Franklin’s Mint.
The multi-disciplined musician from American avant-garde music scene is a noise rocker with plenty of pedigree. His work with Mr. Bungle’s Trey Spruance in bands like Faxed Head and The Secret Chiefs 3 is stuff of legend.
Moving away from his decorated past endeavors, Franklin’s Mint was initially established in 2004 as a solo project, evolving over the years into a collaborative venture.
In 2022, the band welcomed the extraordinary talents of Danny Heifetz (Mr. Bungle/The Secret Chiefs 3/Diesel Head), Bär McKinnon (Mr. Bungle/The Secret Chiefs 3/Umlaut), and the Melbourne-based musical maverick Daniel Tucceri.
The show at The Wicko this Saturday, 20 January, will celebrate the release of a limited pressing of the band’s Ruby Baby EP through Melbourne’s resurrected BlackHole Records.
Aussie parlour magician, social commentator and comedian Dr El Suavo, who has shared the stage with likes of The Damned, The Bronx, Les Claypool, and Regurgitator, will also be along for the ride.
Opening the night are Newcastle’s very own masters of the avant-garde, tallJENNY. They’ll be playing cuts from their brand new LP, It’s Relative.
Basically, if you like your music a little left of centre (or a lot), this is the gig you want to be at this weekend. Plus it’s a free show.
