It’s all about a Classic can-do attitude at FogHorn Brewery

It’s the local brew that took out top honours in the Best European Ale category at this year’s International Beer Awards.

And now, beer lovers are able to enjoy FogHorn Brewery’s Hunter Classic whenever they dang well please with the popular brewmeisters releasing the champion beer in can form.

Starting life as Hunter Kolsch under the expert eyes of Keith Grice and Daniel Gayner at Nulkaba’s Hunter Beer Co, when Hunter Beer Co was rebranded to Foghorn Hunter in 2020, the Kolsch also made the transition.

“When they became part of the Foghorn team we promised not to tinker with the brew but to help take it to the next level and a wider beer-loving audience,” FogHorn wrote in a Facebook post announcing the release.

“Winning a Trophy for Best Euro Ale at this year’s Australian International Beer Awards was the icing on the cake. We’ve re-named it, highlighting the local Classic that it is and from this week it’ll be available take-away from our Newcastle venue and from all good local bottle shops, pubs and restaurants.

Speaking about the Hunter Kolsch win at this year’s International Beer Awards, FogHorn head brewer and CEO Shawn Sherlock said the end result was a testament to the expertise of the team at FogHorn Hunter.

“Hunter Kolsch is a beer that Keith [Grice, FogHorn Hunter brewer] and the guys based at FogHorn Hunter have been brewing for a long time and are rightly proud of.

“As we’ve grown we’ve been brewing Hunter Kolsch in our larger capacity King Street Newcastle brewery, including the trophy-winning batch. It is a great example of our Hunter and Newcastle sites coming together and producing world-class beers.”

Hunter Classic is available for takeaway at FogHorn’s Newcastle location at 218 KIng Street and where all good beers are sold!
