The adrenaline-fueled worlds of surfing and motocross will come together in the Hunter next month for the inaugural Foam and Loam surf and moto contest.
Newcastle’s Bar Beach and Maitland District Motocross Club will play host to two days of action-packed team-based competition presented by MXstore giving riders and surfers the ultimate opportunity to test their skills in waves and on dirt tracks.
The event will be spearheaded by legendary surfer and motocross enthusiast Julian Wilson, who will serve as contest director and host.
“I have always wanted to bring the community together with an event like this, we all love to surf and ride on the weekends, so Foam and Loam is the ultimate challenge and great excuse to have an epic time together,” Wilson said.
A celebrated figure in the surfing world with a #2 World Surf League ranking in 2018 and an appearance at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020, Wilson is no stranger to high-octane sports.
Beyond his accolades on the water, Wilson is passionate about motocross, often taking part in events like MXstore’s Battle in the Bush and tearing up trails on his KTM bike.
Foam and Loam is designed for teams of four mates who share a love for surfing and riding. Over the course of two days, participants will tackle two tag-team surf rounds at South Bar Beach and two 1.5-hour motocross relay races on a specially designed track at Maitland District MCC. With joint results from the surf and moto challenges determining the overall winners, the competition will highlight both endurance and teamwork across categories such as Open, Women, Mixed, Vets, and Next Gen divisions.
In addition to bragging rights, participants will receive an official event T-shirt, a DRITIMES custom towel, an MXstore goodie bag, and Sun Bum sunscreen—plus the thrill of being part of this groundbreaking event.
