With Mother Nature being arguably the ficklest of entities, this weekend’s anticipated Float Your Boat Festival has been dialed back due to anticipated wooly weather this weekend.

Forecast wet and windy weekend weather has prompted the cancellation of Saturdayโ€™s festivities, which would have seen the illuminated flotilla navigate the eastern side of Lake Macquarie from Marmong Point to Belmont.

It’s not all bad news, however, because Friday’s activities are still set to go ahead and will include a live site at Toronto Foreshore from 5pm to 9.30 pm featuring live music, magic shows, illuminated art installations, children’s activities, and food trucks.

There will also be a live site at Wangi RSL from 6pm featuring music, a creative community workshop, and a bonfire.

And of course that flotilla of weird and wonderful illuminated creations will still be mortioiring around the lake from Marmong Poinbt to Wangi.

โ€œItโ€™s going to be a fantastic night on the water and on shore, with plenty of free entertainment and activities for everyone. Itโ€™s always a whole lot of fun, so rug up and come out and see all the amazing creations light up the lakeโ€ Lake Macquarie Mayor Kay Fraser said.

Boats participating in Float Your Boat will be in the running to win a $2000 Peopleโ€™s Choice Award, a Mayorโ€™s Best Boat Award for vessels 5-10m, and a Mayorโ€™s Best Boat Award for vessels over 10m.

Fans can go in the running to win a $100 gift card by casting a vote for their favourite boat following the weekendโ€™s action.

Float Your Boat is on Friday 18 June. Head here for more information.
