Five reasons to get excited about the 2021 Newcastle Show!

Well, it’s that time of the year again. The Newcastle Show weekend is upon us and we couldn’t be more excited.

It’s that most wonderful time of the year when food on sticks is de rigueur, the laughing clowns are at their merriest, and the showbags are chock full with all manner of goodies – from comedy foam hands to lashings of confection (and everything in between!

If you’re not already in the Show spirit, here are five things you’ll find over the weekend that we reckon are sure to have you spinning round like a gravatron!

1. Eating Competition

Remember that scene in the 1986 River Phoenix flick Stand By Me? The one where Gordy tells the story of a rather portly kid who gets his sweet revenge on the town at the big pie eating contest?

Well, across the weekend you’ll witness a similar eating prowess (minus that scene’s interesting’ climax) as some of the best burger fiends, doughnut demolishers, chicken wing champs, vanilla slice vanquishers, and chilli champs speed eat their way to gastronomic glory.

Head here for the full schedule.

2. Hunter Vibes

Need a break from the colourful hustle and bustle the Show has to offer? Well, Hunter Vibes is the place for you!

It’s a chilled-out space where you can support an array of local stallholders, take in a speedway car exhibition, a train stop and much more – in fact, Hunter Vibes offers something for everyone.

3. Animal Nursery

If you’re looking for a little bit of ‘nawwwww’ energy, then you need to head over the the Animal Nursery.

Adults and kids alike can step into this menagerie and interact with goats, sheep and alpacas, or just watch the ducklings splash around.

If however you’re after a cuteness overload, why not bottle-feed the baby goats, lambs and piglets?

4. Demolition Derby

If you’re into cold cars smashing into other old cars (and not the dodge-’em variety) then this derby of all things demolition should be right up your sideshow alley.

Kicking off at 4pm on Sunday 7 March, this demonstration of skilled driving and wanton destruction is a panel beater’s fever dream and guaranteed to keep the thrill seekers on the edge of their sesats.

Whose will be the last car running?

5. Rides, Rides, Rides!

It wouldn’t be the Newcastle Show without a Sideshow Alley chock a block full of an amazing array of rides.

And organisers are really pushing the boat out this year with a whopping $30 million worth of ride equipment set up on-site and ready for you to enjoy.

Expect to see all of your Show favourites such as ferris wheels, dodge-’em cars and merry -go-rounds alongside a raft of new additions that are sure to have revellers screaming “weeeeee” with abandon!

The 2021 Newcastle Show is on from Friday 5 March to Sunday 7 March. Head here for more information and a full program of events.
