Earlier this year local train expert, David Hampton was approached by the Royal Australian Mint to curate a series of coins exploring the history of Australian steam locomotives.
The first of seven coins were released last week, and include a special collector’s folder with two essays and beautiful illustrations of the engines.
Better known for his work with Newcastle Museum, David told Newcastle Live Radio that he cannot wait for the remaining six coins to be released.
