February at The Stag & Hunter Hotel in Mayfield

The Stag & Hunter Hotel in Mayfield continues to roll out month after month of kick arse live music and February is no different.  From the all in fun of the Merewether Fats Blues Jam this Thursday night (Feb 4) to the amazingly talented Lloyd Speigel on the 19th, there really is something for everyone this month at The Stag.

The Voodoo Express

The Voodoo Express are a powerhouse Blues/Rock band featuring some of Newcastles finest musicians.Their combined experience delivers a knockout perfomance everytime they hit the stage. In their short existence so far they have brought to audiences a show that is jam packed with energy and production that is rarely seen in venues these days.

Dan Hanrahan & The Roadsiders

Den Hanrahan was born kicking and screaming and he’s not about to change. Likened to artists such as Steve Earle, Townes Van Zandt and Gillian Welch, Den’s music is his version of bluegrass and contemporary up tempo acoustic/electric music. Born of one-night stands and roadhouses He’s not afraid to take his audience along for the ride. With his gutsy vocals, lively guitar playing and raw, stripped back style, His gigs are bold and upbeat, yet he maintains an intimacy with the audience as he weaves his way through tales of the lonely life on the road and the characters he has met traveling on it.

Jim was tagged the name NEO working for a start up dot com due to the fact there were two Jim’s

If Jeff Lang, Ash Grunwald, Spiderbait, Slim Dusty, and Wolfmother had a rockin’ baby it would be a wee bit weird but it would also start a band that sounded like 19-Twenty!

Lloyd Speigel

FEB 19

With 8 albums, a swag of accolades to his name and 20 years performing, writing and recording, Lloyd Spiegel has certainly squeezed more into 30 years than many do in a lifetime. It’s that experience and presence well beyond his years that has seen him become one of this country’s leading Blues artists and most respected guitarists. His incredible command of the guitar, powerful voice and high energy performance captivates any audience.

Jemma & The Clifton Hippis

FEB 20

Following two single launches, a video for ‘April’s Fool’, and two years since their first EP, sweethearts of the Melbourne alt-country community, Jemma & The Clifton Hillbillies release their debut full-length album this September 2015. Engineered and produced by Sean McMahon, and recorded around the very table where the songs were written, wine was poured, love bloomed, musicians met, and bonds were forged in the fires of country music, the highly-anticipated recording showcases the group’s talent for heart-on-sleeve confessional booth song-writing married with a wondrous Stone Country style. With a Loretta for posture, and a Patsy for feeling, ever the bookie’s daughter, Jemma Rowlands offers grand odds on love, life and raw emotion.

The Blues Bombers

FEB 26

From the backdrop of an industrial city emerges a fresh take on a classic sound. Newcastle four piece The Blues Bombers bring a dynamic approach to performing a style of rhythm & blues that incorporates aspects of rugged Delta swamp-blues through to early rock & roll and more modern roots & soul.

S & K
