Fanning Dempsey National Park has locked in a date for a show at the Civic Theatre Newcastle this May.

The musical collaboration between Something For Kate’s Paul Dempsey and Powderfinger frontman Bernard Fanning has been touring capital cities since the release of their debut album The Deluge, which landed back in August last year.

Now regional towns, including Newcastle, will get the chance to see what everyone’s been talking about.

The announcement comes on the back of the release of a bonus song not included on the album called Blackstar.

“Blackstar went through a full cycle of styles before arriving fully formed, as a minimalist pop-rock tune. Sometimes when putting an album together you can deceive yourself into adding more โ€˜stuffโ€™ to a song to make it sound different,” Fanning said.

“Often, leaving that โ€˜stuffโ€™ out is the key to making it workโ€ฆjust let the song be itself, as written, and step away from it. I think we only did a couple of takes of this one.”

Fanning Dempsey National Park will play an all-ages show at the Civic Theatre Newcastle on Friday 16 May. Tickets are on sale from 10 am on Thursday 23 January. Visit fanningdempseynationalpark.com for more information.
