Likes For Mr Sykes Concert

The Wickham Park Hotel
61 Maitland Road, Islington, NSW, 2296

In 2019 the music community of Newcastle will be holding the ‘Likes for Mr Sykes Concert’ to help our old friend and true legend of the Australian Music Scene, Geoff ‘Sykesy’ Sykes.

An absolute gentle giant, Geoff has worked with more musicians here in Newcastle and across the country than he’s had bad roadhouse dinners. A roadie and sound engineer since the 1980s, Geoff has always gone above and beyond to make sure the show goes on no matter what.

Now the time has come that Geoff needs OUR help. Ill health has left Geoff with large medical bills he cannot afford. Urgent need for a hip replacement and treatment for prostate cancer have together left Geoff unable to work in the professional field of his life thus far: live music. We are therefore holding this fundraiser. Money raised on the day will contribute to Geoff’s surgery and support for him while he is recovering and unable to work. Let’s support Geoff in his time of need and give back to someone who has given us so much: ‘SYKESY’.

‘Roadies are the unsung heroes of the Australian music industry. They unload the PAs and equipment, they set it all up, they make sure everything is running smoothly before, during and after the gigs. Then they pack everything up in the middle of the night, put it in the back of the truck and hit the road to another town – to do it all over again.’
– Stuart Coupe’s ‘Roadies: The Secret History of Australian Rock ’n’ Roll’, 2018.
