Join us for an evening in conversation with celebrated Hunter-based artist James Drinkwater as he discusses the inspiration behind his ballet Storm Approaching Wanji and other desires, which will be performed at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima in November this year.
Perhaps one of Drinkwater’s most ambitious projects to date, this site-specific ballet explores Dobell’s history and relationship to art and the lake. Like Dobell, Drinkwater makes work about place and intimacy, using distinctive colour and mark making to explore these preoccupations.
In 2013, Drinkwater began taking classical ballet lessons to extend his practice both pictorially and lyrically. This experience as a dancer has influenced his iconography and use of colour for almost a decade, beginning with his early body of work The Boy and the Ballet.
Book now to join us as we delve into the rich story and process behind Drinkwater’s latest creative work.
