Intro to Songwriting Workshop

National Music Academy
461A King Street, Newcastle West, NSW, 2302

This is a workshop for students who are wanting to receive an orientation and introduction in songwriting. Students of all ages are welcome to attend this event during the school holidays, but should have a basic understanding of their instrument or voice established. This hour and a half workshop covers the fundamentals and foundations of songwriting, presented in stages that allow students to gain an understanding of songwriting and how it is used in music.

Topics covered include:
Harmony as a tool for songwriting
Melody as a tool for songwriting
Lyrics and inspiration for songwriting
Basic notation of songwriting ideas
Common rhythms

National Music Academy has been coaching, mentoring and inspiring young musicians in the Hunter for the last 20 years. We are so proud of the musical culture we’re harbouring and the talent we have fostered.

This introductory workshop is a hands-on workshop and students are encouraged to get involved and should come prepared to be creative and collaborate! Students are more than welcome to attend with and without an instrument. Students will leave this workshop with a blueprint of how they can commence their musical journey and explore songwriting in a one-on-one format.
