“Good Luck, Everyheart”

6:00 pm until 10:00 pm

JAMES R. NAPIER has had a lifelong fascination with music and photography. Throughout his twenties he teamed up with Dragon guitarist Robert Taylor, and gigged regularly around pubs and cafes in Sydney. He has been the opening act for notable groups such as The Backsliders and Mic Conway’s National Junk Band. His soaring vocal style was inspired by an early love of female blues and jazz singers – Billie Holiday, Nina Simone and Bessie Smith among others – whose influences he absorbed and made his own. In recent years, he has created a breathtaking portfolio of photographs – often depicting lone figures in natural or industrial settings, lost souls caught in a supernatural slipstream. These photographs are being exhibited publicly and proudly for the first time at the newly re-energised raw industrial exhibition space The Owen’s Collective, Islington, Newcastle. This free event is a beautiful collision of James’ music and his art – he will start the evening with a thrilling 1 hour live concert (filled with jazz and blues treats) and invites everyone to stay afterwards to look at and discuss the art, enjoy a drink from the pop-up bar (or three) and some stunning culinary creations by Newcastle-based caterers – The Wilderness Chef. And as the icing on the proverbial cake, he welcomes the incredible local talents of Terence Koo (jazz pianist), Andrew Wallace (bass) and Rob Coxon (drums) as his in-house band. Don’t miss out – register NOW for your spot at this MASSIVE musical and artistic treat.
