From the organiser...

Newcastle Fringe is excited to be able to offer a mini choir festival after 2 years of no singing allowed! These performances will lift your heart, bring a sparkle to your eyes and joy to your soul. There’s nothing quite like the sound of many voices, lifted in song together. Don’t miss this very special day and the chance to show your support for artists who have long had to be silent.

Spooky Men’s Chorale

  • Sat 26th March at 8.30pm at Wesley Uniting Church Hamilton

MEN, SINGING SONGS. SOME OF THEM ARE FUNNY.

The Spooky Men’s Chorale is a vast, rumbling, steam powered and black clad behemoth, seemingly accidentally capable of rendering audiences moist eyed with mute appreciation or haplessly gurgling with merriment. Based on the twin pillars of grand foolishness and the quest for the perfect subwoofer-rattling boofchord, the Spooky Men seek to commentate on the absurdity and grandeur of the modern male armed only with their voices, a sly collection of hats and facial hair, and a twinkle in the eye.

The Song Sisters

  • Sat 26th March at 2.00pm at Wesley Uniting Church

The Song Sisters is a 30 member strong womens choir. The members have come together from varied singing backgrounds and the choir seeks to support women in singing for enjoyment, friendship, health and well-being. At the heart of the choir is a desire to continually improve the musicianship of the choir. It has been under the leadership of Kim Sutherland OAM, Music Director, and Terence Koo, accompanist, that we have managed not only to survive but flourish.

The Song Sisters commenced rehearsals early in 2020 just as COVID-19 kicked off. They had just a few rehearsals before moving online and into singing via Zoom for 2020 and 2021. The choir’s first live performance was at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Hamilton in 2021 where they were joined by Hunter Singers and Hunter Trebles.

The Song Sisters are connected to The Hive Hamilton and rehearse every Thursday evening from 5.45-7.00pm. The choir welcomes new members.
