Mal Eastick Band is widely considered to be Australia’s finest musical protagonist of the blues. Mal has achieved a standard of playing that is both envied and admired. He has played with Robert Cray, Los Lobos, Buddy Guy, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Tommy Emmanuel, Jimmy Barnes and Kevin Borich, just to name a few. Mal has now crafted a dynamic new show which draws on some of the highlights of his 30 year career as one of Australia’s leading guitar players.
Kevin Borich has enjoyed a music career that has now spanned 56 years and is a quintessential stalwart in the Australian and New Zealand music scene. Penning hits such as ‘Gonna See My Baby Tonight’ and ‘No Turning Back’ Kevin Borich is a founding member of New Zealand’s hit band the La De Da’s, The Kevin Borich Express & Australia’s legendary The Party Boys.
Rock music historian Ian McFarlane described Borich as “One of the most celebrated guitar players in the history of Australian rock.” Having toured, performed with or supported names like Santana, AC/DC, Taj Mahal, Living Colour, Joe Walsh & Elton John, ‘KB’, as as he is known to friends & fans, holds his own to this day and still delivers high impact live performance with the same intensity as he did with Carlos Santana in the 70’s. And he loves the meet and greet after the shows!
THE BONDI CIGARS
When the Bondi Cigars were first gigging around Sydney, late 1989, they moved in a blues/R&B circuit which, while robust enough since the 60s, had then been sparked into new life by the “blues revival” of the mid-80’s, spearheaded by Robert Cray, Joe Louis Walker, Stevie Ray Vaughan and similar crusaders.
The Cigars have consistently delivered the goods; with Down In The Valley nominated in the 2003 ARIA awards for Best Blues & Roots Album, 1995’s After Closing Time awarded Best Blues Album at the 1996 Lithgow Blues Festival, and two of their songs, Lead Me Not Into Temptation and Intensive Care, chosen to feature on the popular ABC Seachange album.
