From the organiser...

An 8 week course (2.5 hours/week) aimed at increasing your sewing skills for textile upcycling.

This 8 week (20 hours) beginners course is a small class (max. 5 students) so that people will receive the assistance they need to significantly increase their sewing skills as a basis for upcycling clothing and textiles.

This class will teach sewing skills aimed at those with limited to average sewing ability – a ‘back to basics’ class. Skills taught will include:
– sewing machine use,
– different seams, seam finishes and hems and understanding when to use them,
– casings (for drawstrings and elasticised waistbands)
– inserting zips
Techniques will be incorporated into projects, so that by the end of the 8 weeks students will have completed a few different projects – e.g. bags, clothing made from other clothing or textiles, or alterations and upcycling of existing garments. Patterns will be provided as needed.

Students can bring their own machine, or use ours. We will use recycled and reclaimed fabrics and haberdashery items, and teach sewing rules and then how to break them!!
