Banned Book Club (BBC)
7:00pm - 8:30pm
From the organiser...
In Ray Bradbury’s dystopian novel Fahrenheit 451 (1953), we enter a world where books were feared because they challenged the reader, brought confusion, discontent and impelled us to question societal norms.
Ironically, a story about the banning and burining of books, was itself banned throughout the decades since being published in the 1950’s until as recently as 2009 (as far as I can find). The novel’s use of profane language, topics about sex, abortion, suicide and the treatment of the Bible (🔥) led some US schools to request a signed note from parents before their child could even have access to the book.
Date: Tuesday August 3rd
(the first Tuesday of the month).
