Eat, play & stay in Warners Bay

We headed out to the Lake Macquarie suburb of Warners Bay last week to check out all the awesome stuff the town has to offer. From great places to eat and stay, to adrenaline inducing activities, you could plan a whole weekend of fun in Warners Bay, and we’re going to show you how.

Warners Bay is quickly becoming a hot spot for foodies. You can virtually take your mouth on a round the world trip here. From modern Australian cuisine to Japanese and Indian food. No matter what your tastebuds desire you’ll find something to satisfy you. Here’s a few selections we’ve enjoyed.

Bay of India

This little eatery on King Street in Warners Bay serves up generous portions of Indian food prepared with skill and a depth of flavour not found in all local Indian food outlets.  The food is a mix of traditional Indian cooking with a western influence. You can choose from 19 different dishes with many vegetarian options.  And while you wait for your order to be prepared you can watch the chef make naans right in front of your eyes. Trust us, it’s the real deal here.

OUR PICK: Butter Chicken & Dahl served on rice with a garlic Naan bread.

Hippo Espresso

Hippo is located on the Esplanade at Warners Bay, overlooking the lake. It has become a favourite for both locals and visitors, who enjoy the restaurant’s casual sophistication and up-beat vibe. The menu is diverse and has something for everyone. They also offer BYO.  The owners have created a friendly, comfortable environment that is the perfect place to kick back and just take in the beauty of Lake Macquaire while enjoying a barista made coffee and having a bite to eat. Hippo is open for breakfast and lunch.

OUR PICK: You can go past the classic combo of coffee and cake here.

The cafe at Warners at the Bay is great for families, groups of friends or even a dinner for two. The menu features modern Australian tastes including salads, seafood, steaks, foccacias, pastas, risottos and tasty wok tossed dishes. They offer a great menu just for kids and with the playground outside, you might even get 5 minutes to yourself. Warners At The Bay is known as Australia’s home of craft beer and is a local mecca for beer lovers. With a vast and ever changing line up of craft beers on tap, this just maybe the best kept secret in Lake Macquarie let alone Warners Bay.

OUR PICK: King Prawn Risotto washed down with a local pale ale.

You’d be forgiven if you did’t know that Warners Bay was actually home to some award winning accommodation options. We’ve focused on just two here. One is great for those taking advantage of the kids activities like Playgrounds Park and Xtreme Karts Warners Bay, the other is perfect for those looking for a room with a view that’s conveniently located near the restaurants and bars along the Warners Bay Esplanade.

Warners At The Bay

The best thing about staying at Warners At The Bay is the location. It’s about 10 minutes walk from the go karts and laser tag, 5 minutes from Playgrounds Park and about a 15 – 20 minute walk from Hunter Ice Skating Stadium.

Warners At The Bay offer a range of rooms, but we’d recommend one of their deluxe king rooms that can accommodate up to 4 people. These rooms are perfect for a weekend family getaway with the kids. They offer practicalities and comforts that make them a great place to rest your head and feet after a big day behind the wheel of a Go Kart or on the ice at Hunter Ice Skating Stadium. The rooms feature balconies and an ensuite bathrooms with all the creature comforts of home, in a quite location.

Eco Inn

While the location of the Eco Inn isn’t as convenient for families who are focused on the PLAY part of their Warners Bay weekend, it does suit those interested in dinning out at the many eateries that now dot the Warner’s Bay esplanade.

Just like Warners At The Bay, Eco Inn offers a range of room styles to suit corporate travelers, leisure couples and families. They offer free movies and WiFi in every room and as part of thier refurb,  Eco Inn’s rooms now feature an individual touch to their design and decoration. You can relax on warm evenings around their landscaped, inground swimming pool or  fire up the BBQ or pizza oven and dine out in the tropical garden surroundings.
