Last month, Lifeline took a record 3,345 calls in one day, the highest daily number in the organisation’s history. So Waves of Wellness (WOW) thinks it’s time to start giving a duck about mental health.
Next month (Ducktober), WOW is challenging everyone in the Hunter to give a duck for the 1 in 5 Australians who experience mental-ill health. You can take part and raise awareness by immersing yourself in cold water for 20 days straight.
Whether you surf, swim or have a cold shower, you’ll not only be doing your part for the foundation, you’ll be strengthening your own mental and physical health with cold water therapy.
It might be ducking freezing, but WOW says that it’s worth it because cold water therapy is backed by science.
Waves of Wellness is Australia’s leading mental health surf therapy charity, committed to transforming lives by delivering for-purpose, innovative support programs for people experiencing mental health challenges.
It delivers free clinical-based group programs on the beach with a learn-to-surf component. With a ‘health by stealth’ approach, they have saved lives and helped over 1,700 people across the country.
